Trailing You

By Kimberly Blaeser.  Like Louise Erdrich, Blaeser is a storyteller who draws strongly on her Chippewa roots but finds the universal in the specific, telling stories which are sometimes funny, often painful but always meaningful - to both Native and non-native readers.  Trailing You is comprised of 32 poems that range in subject matter from family memories of trips to pow-wows and stories told by elders to an open letter to TV commentator Andy Rooney in response to racist remarks about Indians. Selected from a field of over 100 manuscripts, Trailing You is the 1993 winner of the North American Native Author's First book Award for Poetry. Kim Blaeser is an enrolled member of a Minnesota Chippewa Tribe and grew up on White Earth Reservation in Northwest Minnesota.
