Traditional Teachings: Iroquois
This book has three sections to it. There is the Creation story, the Story of the Four Ceremonies, Tekarihoken meets Hadoui and Origin of Man in part one. Part two contains the Story of the Peacemaker and the Great Law of Hotinonshonni. The last section is The Story of Handsome Lake and the Code of Handsome Lake. "The history of the Hotinonshonni has been written many times in many versions, usually by non "Onkwehonwe" scholars who felt that they had become experts on our culture and history. We have learned that the word 'history' has two meanings. When you break the word "history' in half - His/story - the meaning is quite clear. This book will tell you of our story as we understand it. This does not mean that we have become experts, but rather is an attempt to share what we know. It is far better that the reader understand how our people viewed the world and recognize that our traditional teachings are ours and can never be shared with other races and nationalities. This is what was given to us by Sonkwaiatison, our Creator, for the Onkwehonwe.
